It started in a darkroom in grade eight. Watching a picture come up in the tray is the kind of thing that either does nothing for you or never quite lets go. It never let go.
I have been shooting ever since. A railway bridge at the moment the sun comes through it. An empty platform at ten at night. A road that runs out of sight. Almost none of it has been seen by anyone — I printed for myself, hung a few at home, and left it there. This is me turning it outward.
Every one of those pictures is the same act. Stand a little off from where everyone else stands. Wait for the light to do something. Take out everything that is not the point. A bridge is only a bridge until you get low enough that the track runs straight through the middle of it — and then it is a way through, which is a different picture entirely.
That is the part of me I am actually offering. Not software. A way of looking at something ordinary until the thing worth showing comes up out of it.
The rest of my week I run operations for a manufacturer here in Kamloops, and that side taught me what a customer is worth and what it costs to find one. I have sat across from agencies explaining what our brand needed, paid for some of it, and watched which parts actually brought people in. It is useful and I will use it for you. It is just not the part that shows up in the work.
Getting found and getting chosen are two different problems. A good page answers both — who walks past, what makes them stop, what makes them book. And you are too close to your own place to see it. You notice the counter that needs replacing and the corner that never stays tidy. Somebody walking in for the first time sees something else entirely.
I will be straight with you: building pages for other people is new. Seeing is not — I have been at that for twenty-five years, and everything above was made with the phone in my pocket. I am taking on a few clients at a time, here in Kamloops, and being early means you get all of my attention and a price that reflects it.
One thing worth saying
Every photograph on this page was shot on a phone.
No studio, no lenses, no gear you do not already own. It was never the camera. It is knowing where to stand, what to leave out, and when the light is worth waiting for.
That is the whole job, and it is the same thing a page needs. Most businesses do not need more money spent on them. They need somebody to look properly and decide what matters.
